Chandra Mantra Japam:

Chanting of mantra was a concept of the Vedic saints that includes mantras as one of the main forms of worship, whose end is seen as escape. Basically, Mantra Japam means repeating the mantra. Reciting Mantra has become an established feature of the Hindu practices. Mantra Japam involves repetition of mantra again and again. Chandra Dev (Moon), as a God, is fair and youthful in appearance. He is considered wise, peaceful and auspicious. He wears white and carries a mace in one hand and is seated on a lotus which is carried by a shining white chariot pulled by white horses.

Chandra Puja is to appease the planet Moon. Chandra Puja is very useful & beneficial Puja, since its worship strengthens benefic Moon & increases its positive influence and pacifies malefic effects of the planet & neutralizes its negative effect.
