The year 2011 Rishi Panchami Puja
It is worth notable that the Rishi Panchami is a ritual which is observed in Shukla Paksha right the next day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Some people may confuse it with the festival. But it is crucial to understand that it is basically a process of vrata (fasting) and puja (worshiping). The Rishi Panchami Puja is performed by women and it is tributed to the Sapta Rishis (The seven sages).
The significance of Rishi Panchami Puja is highly significant. The process of vrata and puja are considered to be so powerful that the performed can eliminate all the curses and sins of life. It is performed by both married and unmarried women. The unmarried women practice fasting and worshipping on Rishi Panchami in order to prevent all the malefic effects of their period or menstrual cycle.

During the time the people have bath in the holy rivers and other pious water bodies that are available nearby. During Rishi Panchami, lord Ganesha, the navagraha (the nine planetary bodies), Saptarishis (seven sages) and Arundathi are worshipped by the devotees. Prasad is offered to the deities and women wash the feet of their husbands during the sacred ritual.
The application of a special red mud is done on different body parts and women normally take several baths during the whole day’s proceedings. Women clean up their teeth with a sacred plant termed as Dantiwan. It is considered to be an important step to eliminate all the sins from the body and life.
